Inspection tour to Sri Pali Printers by the SLAP team on the 21st February 2005
Building work recommenced on the 21st February 2005. SLAP team visited his site around 6.35 and the fist two pictures shows the lagoon just before the sun rise.
 
   
 
Ms. Dharani Karunaratne (Hon. Secretary), Mr. Chandana Weerasinghe (Past EXCO member), Shehani Perera (Administrative Secretary), Mr. Dilan Jayasinghe (Treasurer) and Mr. Keerthi Gunawardane (President – not in the picture) visited the site.
 
 
 
The auspicious time for the reconstruction was at 6.57a.m in the morning and the picture shows the start of work.

Mr. Thusitha Ranasinghe hand over a cheque to the value of Rs. 258,180.74 on behalf of one of his suppliers for this project.
       
 


Mr. Hiran de Silva MD and the SLAP Executive Committee Members hand over a cheque for Rs. 500,000.00 to SLAP president Keerthi Gunawardane for the use of the SLAP Tsunami relief fund. This is a contribution from Heidelberg Switzerland and the Alliance Agencies Sri Lanka.

Thanks to Mr. Neomal Fernando ( Rs. 50,000/=) Mr. Jonney Fernando (Rs. 50,000/=) and Mr. Thisitha Ranasinghe (Rs. 258,180.74) for their valued contributions for this project. The above three donations will be sufficient for the reconstruction of the Sri Pali Press. We should be proud to assist this long standing member of SLAP.

Thanks to Mr. Sathis Abeywickrama past president of SLAP for the ink supplied to donate to Sripali press and Ms. Dharani Karunaratne for the consent to donate the paper required and Mr. Thajan de Silva’s consent to attend to the repairs at the Sripali paper cutter.


Just after the Tsunami the Executive committee of the SLAP called an emergency meeting and discussed how we can assist the members, print shop workers and the other affected parties related to the print industry

Meeting at the Galle District Chamber of Commerce & Industries - 22nd January 2005 at 2.00pm
 
After the inspection tour we have called all the printers given us the details about the Tsunami losses to their business for a meeting at the Galle District Chamber of Commerce & Industries. In the mean time the Galle Chamber called the other parties informed about the losses directly to them who are related to the printing industry also to attend this meeting.
