Karat
Digital Offset Press
The 74 Karat is an offset press optimized
for short to medium runs of four-colour print jobs. Engineered
specifically to meet the changing needs of the printing industry,
the 74 Karat: |
| |
|
- Enhances Productivity by dramatically reducing makeready,
paper waste and consumables consumption throughout the
printing process, so more jobs can be printed per shift
at a lower cost per job;
- Delivers consistent and predictable colour with minimal
operator intervention by incorporating proven colour management
principles and press controls to eliminate colour fluctuation
and registration problems on press;
- Prints to rigorous commercial offset standards, e.g.
by eliminating more and using Turbo Screening to support
maximum screen rulings and smooth vignettes
|
| These properties
are supported by the following features: |
| |
|
- A compact design with a common impression cylinder;
- A Gravuflow keyless inking system that delivers saleable
colour in just ten sheets;
- Commercially proven waterless inks;
- PEARLdry waterless aluminium plates with automatic
loading, unloading and on-press thermal imaging;
- Extensive automation of major press functions, with
control via a user interface.
|
The
print quality delivered by the 74 Karat can stand comparison
with any high-class, four-colour offset press. This includes
its ability to lay down high density, smooth solids and a
crisp, uniform dot structure across the entire sheet. The
40-diode thermal imaging system can produce screen rulings
of 80l/cm (200lpi) or more.
The 74 Karat is a B2 press with a maximum
rated output of 10,000 sheets per hour on a wide range of
paper types and weights. Designed for one-man operation, the
press has a cycle time (i.e. from the last good sheet of one
run to the first good sheet of the next) of just 17 minutes.
The 74 Karat is designed to combine the proven
qualities of offset with the convenience of electronic imaging
and an automated workflow, eliminating the need for intensive
manual intervention. The result is a neat, accessible and
highly automated machine that is big on performance but small
on manning.

46
Karat – the little sister
Is a product of a strategic alliance with
Presstek Inc., USA. Engineered like the 74 Karat, for quick
fire short run colour, and featuring the same compact design
and cylinder arrangement, the 46 Karat differs on three accounts:
|
| |
|
- It has conventional roller-type inking units with ink
keys and four forme rollers;
- It incorporates Presstek’s ProFire imaging technology;
- It uses Preestek’s PEARLdry Plus waterless plates.
- The ProFire system features multi-beam lasers that form
screen dots direct on the mounted plate. It supports an
image resolution of 1270 or 2540dpi, an 80l/cm screen
and can image four colours in 4-5 minutes at 2540dpi or
2-3 minutes at 1270dpi.
- On the 46 Karat the entire printing sequence –
from plate advancing and imaging to printing and blanket
cleaning – is automatic.
